National Security

President Obama’s most senior national security advisers have recommended measures that would move U.S. troops closer to the front lines in Iraq and Syria, officials said, a sign of mounting White House dissatisfaction with progress against the Islamic State and a renewed Pentagon push to expand military involvement in long-running conflicts overseas.

The debate over the proposed steps, which would for the first time position a limited number of Special Operations forces on the ground in Syria and put U.S. advisers closer to the firefights in Iraq, comes as Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter presses the military to deliver new options for greater military involvement in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.

I think this is due to having General Dunford as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs.. He just came back from Iraq with the news about ISIS Ash Carter is onboard with the Genera'ls recommendations that were discussed in detail yesterday before the Senate Armed Services Committee chaired by John McCain... Don't know if Obama has bought in on some of the suggestions by Ash Carter... They talked about a Free Fly Zone in Syria and more raids in Iraq to defeat ISIS and FO teams in Syria to better call in air support for the rebels fighting Assad..

Sgt Tom Cunnally, That's a start. I hope Obama listens to Gen Dunford and Ash Carter. Everyone supports our troops, but we are getting tired of it dragging on and more and more coming home in a metal box or wounded so bad, their life as they knew it is over. I hope you understand what I'm trying to convey.

It is not that I am against the additional troops, but being lied to about it. It takes a certain critical mass to do anything of consequence in the flaccid war against ISIS/ISIL. Admit it and do something more than pin pricks by our SpecOps in combat while "advising". If you are a politician, rather than a leader, you dither until you get out of office so that you don't have the Afganistan albatross around your neck for a legacy.

SGT (Join to see) Unfortunately that is the way the entire Presidency has been. Lead by opinion and not by example! Just my opinion!

COL Mikel J. Burroughs, Obama fans don't believe that. But, using common sense will show that you are correct. Thank you for your comment.
