I'm stationed at Patrick AFB and it is highly competitive here. I'm 5 of 17 promotion eligible TSgts in the squadron. I earned a AFCM, 27 credits and completed my bachelors. Endless amounts of community and base envolvement. I lacked awards this year. As an NCOIC I put one of my several SSgts in for awards all the time and now it's biting me on the butt because the other TSgt won an award and is instantly better in all aspects of the "whole person concept" then me.

Still PAFB is a paradise, and it a good place to catapult your career.

Sadly it's becoming competitive and now many of us have to become inherently selfish to succeed.

Great comment!! This new system turns us into sharks! Also the Whole Person Concept needs to die before we will ever be an effective force!!

I do believe in the whole person concept but I also think there should be a change in how leadership considers the best of the best.

Professional organizations: elections are based on how many personal friends and co-workers you bring with you and not on actual merit. Positions should not be considered for promotion recommendations.

Who is better. The NCO who has written 10 award winners from his or her section or the NCO who won them self an award? Everyone speaks about "taking care of your Airmen" but when it comes to promotion time what you have done for your Airmen means squat in the aspect.

Education is extremely important in the civilian world but means little in the Air Force. All an enlisted member needs for a senior rater endorsement is an associates? Are you kidding me? The Air Force is setting up its enlisted members for failure. Tech Sergeant endorsement - CCAF. Master Sergeant endorsement - Bachelors. Chief - Masters.

So many enlisted members get out at 20 years and have been literally are under qualified for most jobs.

Back to the main topic - education is important lol.

Like a good little trooper and pressed on.

And the military can't hold a stick to the politics of civilian EPRs. You work only for the benefit of your boss and his "good-ole-boys" and not YOUR actual accomplishments or efforts.
Learn to accept and deal with "The Shaft"

Thank you for your input, I'm sure the civilian world has its challenges but I'm looking specifically at the new EPR here. Also I will never just deal with the "shaft", if it's unfair I will challenge it.

I haven't seen my EPR yet but I know where I fall within the "rack and stack" which is surprising higher than I expected. Also I'm not surprise about my rating since I'm a new TSgt, but what I am surprised about within the new system is how many 4s and 5s are based on unit size and the CC's decision to give or deny giving a higher than 3 rating to anyone.

How new are you? If you are not promotable this year you will not receive a rating from your commander. You can theoreticaly be far right from your rater and receive a "not ready for promotion" from your commander.

Very true but my point is that a CC may deny his higher rating entirely from those who are eligible to promote. You can theoretical be "1" in your unit as a TSgt and not get a 4 or 5 which to me is crazy. Also I just put on TSgt last November.
