Service Members are at their most productive when they are trying to figure out how to get around the rules.

This pic popped up on my FB feed.. Here was my response....

Good job well done, your promoted,,,NOT.... now, see that track behind you.. Take them baby soft hands and the other three knuckleheads in your squad that spent the last 4 hours figuring this gimmick out and helping you stuff gloves up your jacket sleeves, change those track pads. .. WHAT did you say??? Of course I know it's a three day weekend...I also know those pads have been sitting in the MP waiting on pick up for a week...You have been in the MP since 0900,,,it's 16:00 now.. and the pads still are not replaced, the rest of the platoon got theirs done I see, yet you had time to perfect your gag....I figure you owe them, the commander and I, 7 hours, we'll call it 6 since you had an hour lunch.. .. But I want to be fair... so you don't have to pay back all 6 hours today... just 2 hours today, and 2 tomorrow, and 2 Saturday.
Oh and You two..... YES YOU.. PSG and PL who stood by and let those Soldiers dick off for 6 hours and "goof" the commander and I while the rest of your platoon worked their butt off..... Both of you go get a chair, have a seat and "supervise" until the task is done.. No you can not help. You did not help them become better soldiers, help them prioritize their time, maintain the equipment as the Motor Sergeant directed..., so you can not help them learn it's better to do the job first and play later, not the other way around... I'll help with that.. you just sit and watch,,,,Yes Lieutenant you may bring them water... pretty sure the potable water spigot at the wash rack has a hose that will reach.
Oh and you other three squad leaders come here.. well done, it's tough sometimes to work first, play later,,,but you did it anyway.

1SG come over here a sec........ between you and I, if the rest of the platoon shows up to help after formation...... other than the PL and PSG, let um help... If they get it done today... Give um all a 4 day weekend, even the knuckle heads.. I was pretty impressed with the gag, and if they pull together as a team...getting the job done, I think the message has been made. Tell the PL and PSG I'll be seeing them on Monday for PT, no they do NOT get the 4 day.

Hands in the pockets has been and will always be one of my biggest peeves. Got caught my a CSM when I was a private with hands in my pockets, in the winter, with snow on the ground. He didn't smoke me he smoked my chief. Who had me low crawl in the snow without gloves on...to this day I maintain. Gloves in my pockets just in case I need them, no matter the season or weather.

Actually SGM Erik Marquez , I did indeed read your whole post. There is an awful lot of assumption in the made up scenario you gave. Whether or not you're the type of leader that plays hard ass in front of the troops and then tries to give a backhanded reward through your 1SG or not, does not negate the fact that many senior leaders have their hands in their pockets all the time. In fact, at my last battle assembly we had our 2-star CSM there, and he held a brief with the junior enlisted, and then the NCOs afterward. Almost the entire time he spoke to the NCOs, his hand or hands were in his pocket(s). I'm assuming (though I could be wrong) he did the same for the juniors. Many of them were never AD, and have not had what's right drilled into them the way those of us that were did. So if they see it being done at that level, why isn't it OK for them to do as well??

SSG (Join to see) The fact you still think my post had anything to do with hands in pockets is telling.

You may want to try a bit harder to actually read what your eyes gloss over. The chip your carrying on you shoulder is interfering with you comprehension.
Try it again, no chip, no grudge for what ever wrongs you perceive were lumped upon you.
Read the WHOLE post, see if you can come up with something different then you have twice now. Consider the likely context in which the reply was written, one of clearly having NO idea what happened in that location, time and space.... Consider possibilities beside the one your chip drives you to.
