SGT Blood, The amount of time your friend has been a Sergeant is not of conflict when it comes to RCP. The important information is how long has this Soldier been in the Army? RCP is 14 years for a sergeant or sergeant promotable. If your buddy has any hopes of staying in the military, an evaluation of their job performance and potential must be examined. Has this NCO completed the requirements for promotion to Staff Sergeant, SSD, NCOES, and recommended positions for their MOS? This NCO should have been counselled by their first line supervisor on the steps they need to complete in order to be considered for promotion. Also, what are you looking for with the RCP question? Unfortunately, with the information given I can only speculate. Endstate is this NCO's only option for retention in the military past 14 years is promotion to staff sergeant. I hope this helps you , if not I apologize.

if your friend is in a no where up MOS, time to change. If he has waited seven years to figure this out or longer, he may not wish to do what must be done. So in that case, he sank himself.

He is an 88N. There is an up but he just has been deployed and his particular locations that he has been to have held him back. Granted he should have been working on these things earlier he is a good NCO and is very knowledgeable. Knows a lot about transportation.

Yeah that what we are finding out. He is currently with ARCENT and they sent him out here to Kuwait when he could have been going to ALC already. Then to the board. That is if he would have gotten it done before the 1st of Jan. They are looking into a field promotion but not sure of the details yet. Any suggestions on this approach? He has SSD 2 done just needs to go to school and then to the board.

SSG (Join to see) - Field promotions, as far as I understand, supersede any training requirements needed in order to get promoted but he would certainly have to get that done as soon as possible.

SSG (Join to see) - And, I would certainly recommend going the field promotion route in order to save his skin. It should work like a regular promotion board, packet and all that jazz that goes into it. But, it is extremely competitive as they look at all the packets for everyone in the theatre of ops that submit for it, and choose the best candidate......and usually they only hand out like one or two promotions per E-5 and E-6 respectively. Tell your buddy to make that packet shine like gold pressed latinum.
