Does any one know the procedure for LASIK for a reservist?

Does anyone know the regulation or the procedures to do either LASIK or PRK as a reservist that is paying for a private doctor to do the procedure?
I see active duty can get it for free , and there are specific ways of getting it. But in my case I want to do it privately, and I want to ensure I don't jeopardize myself with just going out and doing it. Any pointers would help

Honestly sir, to the best of my knowledge, you should just need to run it by your Company Commander. You will probably be asked about your post op limitations and recovery time, and I would try to plan it so as to not miss any Battle Assemblies. I do not have a specific source for you, but I am the AGR Battalion Medical NCOIC for my unit and that is the route I would recommend for any of my soldiers, Sir.

the agr s1 told me there shouldn't be any forms involved , the recovery time in my case is just 1 month. I appreciate it SGT.

As a Reservist, the medical responsibility of the military is to ensure you are medically cleared to attend schools (TRADOC), drills, and deplorability, by means of PHA, Medical physical, Hearing, Vision EXAMS. It is your fiscal and monetary responsibility to ensure you are deployable, medically cleared etc.
In your specific case you are required to use your personal insurance and co-pay on your own. I contacted the Medical Readiness Officer at higher command last week, to inquire about having a cataract removed. The response of the Medical Readiness office instructed me to use my Tricare to remedy the ailment.
In my opinion, I think that it is unfair that reservists volunteer to serve, as an active component would, yet we (reservists) must pay out of pocket to be “deployable” at personal expense, loss of civilian pay to have procedure done etc. Also just did my PHA, Dental, Vision, Hearing two weeks ago….Currently not reimbursable due to funding. Basically 6hrs loss of civilian pay I need to work overtime daily to make up the difference, so that the S-1 doesn’t have red on monthly report to superiors.

CW3 (Join to see) - There are alternatives for you to be paid for your RHRP appointments through LHI. They can allow you to RST for the appointment and then convert the code later once the Medical RMAs are available or they can hold the voucher for payment until the funds are available. Either way, sir, there are avenues to ensure you are compensated for these LHI appointments.

It's like getting your teeth done out in town. All the MIL side cares about is you're medically qualified. So if the last time you could see and the next time you can see, the MIL side has no interest. Same if you get your tonsils out. The caveat is if the recovery spans a drill weekend, you'll need to reschedule and likely have a Dr slip saying you're good to go as of a set date. This stuff happens all the time in the Reserve world. Presume your outside insurance is covering. You can look at the MIL side but your primary is what you have out in town.
