Many of us struggle with finding out motivation to continue our careers. What gets you through aside from "my amazing subordinates"?

Vision. I keep looking ahead. When I just look at what is going on now, and I have lost my motivation - I look ahead. I visualize where I am going and what it looks like down the road.

Could you elaborate, CSM? I don't know that I've been doing anything terribly different, but my images are not helping.

I agree with your vision statement, CSM Jane Baldwin. There is a book that I look to called Strategy 360 by Randall Bell. Bell found four areas of concern that need to be considered: your (P)urpose, your (P)eople, your (P)roductivity, and your (P)rogress. I would include the 3 Ps of resilience: (P)ersonalization, (P)ervasiveness, and
(P)ermanence. ((Some would include (P)izza)). Include these with the (P)rocess of
(P)ersistence, (P)atience, and (P)erseverance. There are 12 Ps that should be part of your vision and understanding.

SFC (Join to see) - Sure. For example after I had my third child (7) years ago) I got on the scale and it said "to be continued." I am used to being a size 4, so this was very distressing. My husband was in Iraq, my sister had just died, my 15 year old niece was now added to my household, and I could not even button my ASU pants. The weight was not coming off, so I felt discouraged. I would visualize how I wanted to look and imagined wearing my clothes and going out feeling great about myself. I visualized my fitness being back, and how good that felt knowing I was taking care of my health and wellness. I put post it notes everywhere with comments about my ideal weight, my fitness, clothes fitting, wellness, uniform fitting, I will do it, Being able to buy some new size 4 clothes, and just more that would take me to the place I saw myself being. Whenever I did not make progress, I did not dwell on that. I continued to look to the future. Even though my circumstances were challenging, I made it to my goal. Does that help?

CSM (Join to see) - It absolutely does. I do find myself catastrophizing my circumstances and I realize it only after the fact. Thank you for your advice

A change in scenery always worked for me when I was getting burned out in a duty position.

Find ways to force yourself to work outside of your comfort zone, where you feel like you have a big learning curve.
