Leaders, what are some ways to deal with mission demands vs. training demand percentages?

Is mission more important than training?

Training must be completed to ensure success of a mission. However, who said you cannot use a mission to also train?

Generally State HQ. see one of the bad things about living in the "biggest little state in the union" is that some NTAC from the head shed could always find you and your unit no matter where you were. God how they LOVED to visit on drill weekends.
NTAC -No Talent A$$ Clown. You know the type - no time in a line unit but they "know" everything, Yell "deployment" in a crowded room and the next sound you hear are crickets chirping, MDMP is for determining the tactical necessity of who to send on the Dunkin Donuts coffee run (where are the LTs at?), "the field" is a virtual reality environment, or 4 letter word at best.

Absolutely well said Sir! What direction are we headed in? We are forcing out old talent and replacing them with less passionate, less aggressive and inexperienced personnel. We are filling our ranks with great briefers, and losing effective trainers. This causing mass confusion within todays Command teams,

Have they done away with the red, green, amber duty cycle? Red - training only, no one can change the schedule; green - mission first, train when possible; amber - essential missions only can detract from training.

MAJ Petrarca....you can always add to the training schedule because of justification, but cannot take away from the schedule it would raise up a red flag.

Thanks MSG Williams, In the NG we would walk into drill on Sat AM after our Tue night, pre-drill execution checks only to find everything changed because state HQ got a burr up their butt. This would often happen after they chewed us out 2 months prior for not having our approved training schedules in on time. It got to be a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario that we unfortunately had to live with.

in my experience this has been a delicate balance to maintain, when the mission required the training it is easy, but much of our mandatory training does not, when working with civilians and contractors i had to make it their personal priority by mass emailing and posting names of those non-compliant and posting percentages turning it into a competition of pride among the staff.
