Will we see this happen again in 2017 when it comes to getting legislation through the House and Senate?

The cartoon above is wrong in my opinion on Politics these days - "The struggle for money, power, and votes!"

Just an opinion - your thoughts RP Members?

I was speaking with a Veteran on Saturday and he stated that he had an epiphany last week while watching the Politics on TV and came to the realization that there is a wide gap between Politics and the Government.

He simply stated, "When did the Government actually due something for the people in the last 20 years, versus just pointing fingers and pushing their political agendas for money, power, and votes?"

I see no gap between the two. They are complimentary. Government makes the laws, enforces the law, and adjudicates disputes in accordance with the law. Politics is the process by which We the People decide who will do those things. That's always as it has been. The problem today is that We the People are divided between those who wish to live as free men and women and those who wish to surrender those freedoms in exchange from freedom from responsibility. Sadly, the former haven't been paying attention to government (it simply wasn't that important to free men and women) and those who want a big government to take responsibility for everything have been having their way. Thus, government is now big enough to intrude into every detail of our lives and costs more than we can afford. There is now a lot of strife as freedom-loving men and women are awakening to the danger and trying to take back their lives and their freedom. It's going to be an interesting contest from here on out...

Seems to me that you CPT Jack Durish and COL Mikel J. Burroughs may be roughly in the same ballpark, just different sections. I see such parallels in your conservative thoughts.

Well stated. My question is HOW or better yet CAN We the People make the necessary changes to our government to get America back on track? CAN we "un-do" all the wrongs that have already been done??

I think the only way the "People" will regain control is to have term limits. Unfortunately the only way is for the House and the Senate to approve it so it can go through the process of becoming the law of the land. I may be mistaken but I think it would take a Constitutional Amendment. The Supreme Court struck down a movement to put in term limits back in I think 1994. This action was a result of State movements to limit terms. But SCOTUS said states couldn't limit Federal office holders. So currently there is no limit to terms in either Congress or the Senate. And God know, these two so called August Bodies will not limit themselves.

I loved Ronald Reagan. Every president has a fan club and a hater's club, it's impossible to hold the presidency without both camps... but when I look at all of the good he did for our Military and our National Security, I'm grateful for his leadership. I personally believe the federal government should have a very limited role except to provide for the common defense and to uphold the constitutional rights of it's citizens... My personal opinion - we've gone way too far at the federal (and in some cases the state) level in providing services that should be an individual responsibility - not a tax-supported national responsibility.

I miss President Ronald Reagan; and love him very much as President.
President Reagan actually appointed Papa to be a Federal Administrative Law Judge.
Papa served as a Judge in Sacramento; the capitol of California.
He was the head of Human Services.
Have a terrific evening, Joe!

In my book one of the best presidents we have had in a long time and hopefully Trump will be placed in that position. Only time will tell.

The government is divided and dysfunctional because they are a reflection of the culture war going on in the country today. The situation will never improve until the electorate improves.
