Yes, you have to be at least a Sergeant to be a member of SAMC, but the key to being recommended is your conduct as an NCO as well as your ability to take care of your Soldiers and their families. There are a lot of young Sergeants that are doing just that and are being recommended for it. Given some of what is being evaluated at the board, Sergeants, as that first line leader, are some of the best equipped to go before the board. What that does for them is gives them that mentorship network they might not get at their unit to be able to be better NCOs. Now should all Sergeants be SAMC members? No. That's why there are requirements for recommendation. But nothing stops that member that gets recommended and selected from mentoring that one in his/her unit so that they become better NCOs and maybe, become eventual members themselves. SAMC gives you what you put into it. It is a vehicle to mentor young Soldiers and NCOs as well as provide another positive example of the Army to the community.

The only reason that the logo has Staff Sergeant chevrons is because that was the highest enlisted rank Sergeant Audie Murphy achieved in his three years of Active Federal Service during World War 2.

They are NCOs. Why should they not be included?
