As a SHARP/VA handling cases for a collateral duty. I have always said and will always say, that these offenses that fall under Article 120 should be taken away from the military and passed to the concurrent states jurisdiction for prosecution. I know and understand that we have come this far in the past 4 years with changing the UCMJ and clarifying that particular article under rape. However, the line of collateral offenses is still gray and should defined more. This would be a perfect example of why. Allowing the state to prosecute sexual in nature crimes is very unlikely to happen, but I can hope for it.

SSG (Join to see). Thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you do for so many others in need. While I agree in principle with shifting the responsibility for investigation, prosecution, and sentencing in most SHARP cases to civilian authorities . . . in cases like this one where the victims were not simply forced . . . but rather exploited by undue duress and under color of military authority . . . we should retain jurisdiction . . . sentence to substantial hard time at Levenworth. . . and then execute the perpetrators. We also need to spend more time instilling a better sense of self respect and self worth in our soldiers . . . and do a far better job of looking out for and helping our most vulnerable soldiers . . . including frequent checkups by command on their financial status, family, and social welfare status. If we can't trust SHARP officers . . . maybe the Chaplains or Marine Officers . . . people used to dealing with troops in need with obvious integrity . . . or maybe the IG/CID should produce an app that would make it easier to discretely alert the CO/XO that their charges are in need and/or being exploited . . . without the pressure of walking into a potential predators office to file a report that may be ignored or swept under the carpet. Maybe we should polygraph SHARP officers monthly. Warmest Regards, Sandy

Yes ma'am agreed on the "back to the basics" on which has been lost when it comes to taking care of our junior leaders and soldiers alike. This has been lost over the years, a valuable attribute in which we once used to posses and make a number one priority. That's a leaders keys job IS to take care of soldiers first and foremost, but with this goes back to the fundamentals. I will save that for a different topic and not stray from the creepy one. As it pertains to the SHARP professionals that have been selected to serve in the appointed duties and full fill these roles as an advocate, I have seen it too often where it has been a number game. A company is authorized two, and they only have one. Rather than setting down to screen the appropriate individual it is a "hey you" task that fills a green bubble for a slide deck for reporting purposes. After training, OJT, and the first case; that NCO/Officer realizes that the collateral duty may or may not be what they wanted to do. Or not serve with in unbiased approach. And that's is exactly what you have to remain. This also boils downto character and conduct. If the character of the NCO/Officer is flawed off duty, that bleeds back into the professional realm. I'm sure the person who selected this MSG to serve as the SHARP/SARC should have dug a little deeper to see where his character flaws where off duty, they would have identified what his professional flaws were as well.

The problem with relinquishing this to the civil authorities is that cases almost always get pleaded down, and usually to the point where the guilty do not have to register as a sex offender. The military does not plead down and always registers them as a sex offender.

I say bring back old School UCMJ, Hard labor means hard labor! Bring back CCF or Charlies Chicken Farm. For those to young to remember that think of it as 8 weeks long smoke session. Building sand bag pyramids, digging holes then filling them in. Lots of PT and Drill Instructors like Thomas Highway from full metal jacket.

There are few things that make me want to pickup a weapon and go hunting for bear . . .

Prosecutors charge that Sgt 1st Class Gregory McQueen ran a prostitution ring at Fort Hood for a month or two that took advantage of cash-strapped female soldiers and connected them with higher-ranking officers.

These complaints, investigations, and hearings have been going on since May 2013. During this exceedingly long period of time ONLY TWO ENLISTED MEN HAVE BEEN CHARGED . . . including Sgt 1st Class Gregory McQueen and Master Sgt. Brad Grimes . . . based on testimony from three young women including at least one 20 year old female single parent . . . where she confided in McQueen that she had been sexually assaulted while training at a different Army post . . . and she was experiencing financial problems after her husband left her and her 3-year-old son and drained the couple's bank account. She was just 20 when McQueen approached her in February 2013.

It was McQueen’s job to prevent this type of thing from happening. Instead, the woman testified, McQueen and another female soldier went to her home and tried to recruit her into a prostitution ring at the Fort Hood military base in Killeen, Texas, telling her that she could make “$400 to $500 a night”. McQueen told her there were other ways to make money and arranged to meet her at her on-base home that night, she said. He told her that he could connect her with higher-ranking officers who were willing to pay to have sex with her. When the other soldier left the room, the woman said, McQueen kissed and touched her until she pushed him away. She said she was getting really nervous, getting really angry, but she knew she couldn’t fight a sergeant. McQueen had sex with her and took photos of her naked to show potential clients. She testified that McQueen arranged for her to have sex with Grimes in a motel room at the Killeen La Quinta Inn close to the base and once again in her on base home for $100 . . . and stated that McQueen preys on young females who are in bad financial situations and keeps their pictures on his cell phone . . .

Three noncommissioned officers in McQueen’s battalion testified that he approached them and mentioned that he knew a woman who would have sex for money. Two of them said McQueen showed them pictures of the woman, sometimes in provocative poses. “He said that he had a female that was willing to do anything I wanted for $75,” a master sergeant told the court. The MSG said he was concerned by the exchange and told a superior officer.

What surprises me more than anything else is the testimony that "‘Basically, it was having sex with higher-ranking officers for money . . . ." and yet NONE OF THE PARTICIPATING HIGHER RANKING OFFICERS HAVE BEEN CHARGED AND PROSECUTED FOR EXPLOITATION OF THESE YOUNG WOMEN.

This crap has been going on a long time. I saw it at Ft. Lee in the Late 80's. It also works the other way. We had a Female Rigger LT that was know "date" E-1 through E-4. There is plenty of blame to go around.

The root cause is an American Culture that turn women into objects, add a bunch of type A young adults and things are bound to happen. We need to look at the big picture, the entertainment industry sells sex, consumers buy it. It then becomes the norm that women should give men what they want

Be honest, how much fraternization did you see while deployed?

You wanna know the sad part? two things

1. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, but he did not want to go in as that, he wanted to stay enlisted.

2. I met him in 2004 while he was in the Reserves and placed him on active duty.

3. I ran all of the normal checks police, fingerprints with FBI, complete background checks....I am soooo pissed right now it's unreal

SFC A.M. Drake , understand your anger, however, not your fault. You did the required Pre-qualifications before he enlisted. He was a preditor and preditors tend to be pretty smart in covering their track.....until they slip up and finally get caught. I'm glad he got caught before he harmed more Soldiers then he has. He used his rank/position for personal gain, he harmed Soldiers, a toxic leader. I hope they fry his ass!

SFC A.M. Drake and me being the asshole that I can be, if I were his recruiter and at some point in time had the opportunity, I would let him know how I felt, and that I hoped they fried his ass. I did do just that once, it was after I came off recruiting duty and was stationed at Ft. Bragg. A Soldier whom I had enlisted, had made E5 and brought up on a rape charge. He was in another battalion on post. I contacted his 1SG and was able to speak to him. Fortunately he was court martialed, BCD, and some time. I know it did nothing for the Soldier he raped, but it sure did do me some good! Though easier said then done, it's out of your hands, so "drive on, mission focused, keep charging!"
