So I have the option to take an EOA assignment for Yongsan, I'm pretty tempted to do this except for what I read online that Yongsan is scheduled to close next year sometime and move to Camp Humphrey's. Is there anyone stationed there that can confirm that this is happening? Also anyone that has been stationed at Humphrey's, what are the pro's and con's?

I was in Korea last year and this is what i heard about the transition: Yongsan (most of it anyways) is scheduled to close with resident units moving to Humphreys. I don't know what the overall schedule is going to be, but I know the 121CSH/BAACH isn't moving down until 2016 or 2017 (as soon as the new hospital is finished). Yongsan won't close until all units move off. From what I heard when i was there last year, teh DHL is staying there, but it's going to change it's focus from housing PCSing folks to more of a true MWR facility. Embassy housing on South Post isn't going anywhere either as those belong to State Dept (I haven't heard that they are closing the Embassy Annex on Main Post). I also heard the USFK HQ was going to stay on main post as the USFK commander needs proximty to the Korean Ministry of Defense which is across the street from Main Post. So in all likelihood, parts of main post will stay open. But looks like CP Coiner, CP Kim and most of South Post are going to be turned back over to the ROK government.

Also, Humphrey's isnt too bad.....but it's not Seoul. Pyeongtaek is still pretty much a farm town, so it's pretty rural down there. It's growing for sure, and I will bet you within a ten years will be a small city on it's own becoming a "base town" and suburb of Seoul.
