Issue: NCOER with typo sent to HRC prior to SFC board.

1SG, I have to disagree, the blame, if you want to lay blame, is with the rated soldier. It is his/her report and they should look it over before signing it. They are stating that they verify the admin data, the rater information, HT/WT APFT and have seen the completed report. I always checked my NCOER's and have found mistakes, and had them corrected before the report was submitted. S/he most likely, looked at the excellent and moved on, not reading to see is it really a excellent that is justified by the comments. Reports that have marks in one area but bullets that justify a lower rating is what slows the board and clogs the system, this takes time of the board to read and review more closely the reports of those soldiers. Soldiers need to review their NCOER's and tell the rater, I am not so sure this is a excellent, or I thing lets look at this With what I done do you see it as success or maybe a excellent.
I agree that if adn or and stops him/her from getting promoted, then something is wrong with the board as the regulation states should be generally free of mistakes.

SFC Gannon, respectfully, I don't think 1SG Rink put blame on anyone. He just stated it was human error. I believe it is partly the rate and the rest of the eyes that viewed it..

SFC Gannon does have a valid point that it is the Rated NCOs responsibility to review their NCOER in its entirety before signing but again something as small as adn can easily be missed by even the best of eyes. If anything this serves as a great reminder to all of us to read and reread  once more before signing our evaluations.

Personally, I wouldn't write the letter. As much as I hate to say it, grammar is a lost art in the military. Most people's NCOER's that I've seen have spelling and grammar errors. I think in this case, he'd be doing himself a disservice in drawing attention to it. It's an unnecesary spotlight, and it doesn't negate the fact that he signed it with the error.
