I find it incredibly hard to deal with spouses at events such as FRG. Many of the wives tend to complain (about training over the weekends, about money needed for certain events, about their husbands not being available to go to this/that appointment) and I find it hard to work with them. Many of the Soldiers have financial trouble and it SOMETIMES stems from wives spending money they haven't earned, but feel entitled to. I have a hard time caring about the needs of a wive that has no job other than watching her kids all day. Many people have told me this viewpoint is rude of me. I cant change my own personal values so how do I deal with those spouses I just don't fundamentally agree with? I know my professionalism can only go so far, so are there other ways of dealing with theses dependent wives?

Remember LT, anything that you say that can be taken the wrong way, will be and then run up the UnAuthorized Chain of Command, and the next thing you know, the Battalion Commander (If you are VERY Lucky) calls you in for insulting PFC Tooyoungtobemarried's Spouse. There are Spouses that understand the Army, the Unit and the way of life. I suggest as you do not sound like you have a spouse of your own, make contact with a FRG leader that is really on track and ask for assistance HONESTLY. (I DO NOT recommend that you ask to meet at a bar, or for dinner, that might not go over too good.)
I found throughout my career that there are Spouses that the Unit can not survive without and those that you want to take up on an orientation flight in a C130, lower the ramp, tell them to walk to the edge and look out, then have the pilot climb sharply, depositing the individual over the Aleutians. Then there are some that truly do not understand and YOU as the First Officer in the Soldier's Chain will determine if that spouse becomes an asset or someone you want to push off a ramp.

Deal with them only when you have to deal with them. The events only last so long so just grin and bear it. When you have to deal with somebody that you don't care for then the less time the better.
