I change my entire approach to diet and nutrition. That changed everything! Off all Rx meds (3 of them), down 50# of fat, up 20# muscle, down 60+ cholesterol...

How you fuel determines how effective you fight and for how long.

Fuel right-feel right / feel right-fight right

When you say you changed your entire approach, what were the biggest changes you made to your nutrition? I hear so many things. No sugar, nothing from a box, less meat, more meat...you get the picture.

I tend to do deep breathing techniques. Perfect example was a week ago last wednesday I ended up getting a bad infection in my foot from a cut while playing in a creek with my boys. I went to the ER and my heart was racing and the ER doc asked if I had been diagnosed with anxiety in the past and told him I have and was doing some deep breathing techniques and it helped calm me down before they started the iv and all that stuff. Also I use some amazing therapeutic grade essential oils, and lavender helps me calm down as well.

For me, I have found that working with other people that are suffering with the same PTSD symptoms that I suffer from helps me. I am the Chaplain for a large fire department, and also am a licensed drug and alcohol counselor. Being able to identify some of the issues i suffer from has been a healing factor for me and using those skills to help others keeps me working on them for myself.

MSgt Robert C Aldi - It was a really nasty infection that can spread really quickly. They said that if I would have put off going to the ER for a few more days that I could have been looking at loosing my leg from my knee down, or if it would have gotten into my blood stream then it would have been much worse.

SSgt Holden M. What other oils do you like? I really like lavender and often mix it with some Peppermint.

I really like copieba to. And the brand of oils I use has a blend called valor that I really like. I was feeling a little off the other day and put a drop off valor in my hand and rubbed them together and put it on the sides of my neck right under my ears and cupped my hands over my nose and took some deep breaths through my nose.

With my PTSD and SMDD I take medications to control my panic, anxiety, depression, nightmares, etc. All in conjunction with classes and groups to help cope and learn how to better have a quality of life. Learning how your triggers work goes a long way to mitigate the symptoms. Avoid triggers by being aware of them, and if possible avoid any situation or places that may start one. Bike riding, hiking, swimming, Meditation, simple yoga, and hobbies to keep your body mind active and occupied. Journals may help with problems, as you can get it off your mind and onto the paper. As to chronic pain I am on the pain management program. Physically stretching, walking ,staying limber help in that regard. As does proper nutrition, and at least 6-8 hrs of sleep. Hopefully this will help the brothers and sisters out there. Good luck!

AN Christopher Crayne Thank you for the share. I agree with all this and I am definitely an avid journaler. I find it therapeutic.
