Possible PCS to Fort Stewart - looking for general info

I have the option to PCS to Fort Stewart or Fort Bliss. I'm from GA so all my family is there. We have done a good bit of research on Bliss but don't know much about Stewart. I'm in the Field Artillery so any information on the post and or units would be greatly appreciated. It's my wife, my 14 month old daughter and my wife.

Fort Stewart wasn't bad...at least 20+ years ago. The units were well supplied, and the post is nice. Hinesville was a bit of an armpit, and I doubt that's changed, but Savannah is a great town. Bliss is right on the border...someone else will have to chime in to confirm, but here in TX, Border towns aren't typically viewed as....ideal.

Not that much. it's a typical Military town, and probably exists only to rip off soldiers. If you live in the Barracks it won't be much of an issue....just pay attention to the areas/businesses that the Army says are off limits and you should be fine. If you have a car, get to know Savannah...it's a nice town. Tybee Island isn't bad if you're a beach person...Hilton Head Island is even better, but farther.
