My platoon recently had a complete change of leadership at the squad level with promotions and Marines taking advantage of the "early out". As we were all texting in a group message about the upcoming task and word which was flowing down at a cyclic rate he sent us this text message:

Welcome to the world of leadership. There is no peaceful rests, only nightmares. There is no moment of quiet, only loud thunderous tasks being shouted out. There is no looking back, you are not a Lance Cooley* anymore. Keep your head up and press the fight. And for gosh sakes, be careful out there because the highers don't stop tasking you with more and more. And above all else......... STAY MOTIVATED!!!!!

I thought this was a great spur of the moment text and a testament to his mentor ship as we grow as leaders and I just wanted to share it with everyone

*Lance Cooley is slang for Lance Corporal which is E-3 for any non-Marines who were confused.

SGT (Join to see), that is an excellent spur-of-the-moment text from your platoon sergeant. I especially like the last two words: "STAY MOTIVATED!!!" Just those two words will help you overcome a lot of obstacles and accomplish many missions.

CW5 (Join to see) He usually has the right words to say at the right time to keep us going and growing. I'm lucky to have him as a Mentor

Remember, you cannot do it on your own. Learn how to delegate. Not to be a tyrant or bossy but to encourage your troops to be their best, to keep them motivated, to ensure success. You will have more than enough work piles on you and will need your troops to lighten the load. Treat them with respect and they will follow.
