I was contacted today to see if I could help find info on a dog tag that was found.
My understanding is someone who was visiting Vietnam a couple years ago found a dog tag belonging to an individual in the USMC. They have been trying for the last two years to find info on this individual with no luck. And they would like to return it to its owner or their family.
I have not seen this dog tag but was contacted by my uncle who has and reached out to me. I'm hoping to have the info on the tag in a few days. But I was hoping in the mean time if someone might know of some idea where to start.

Best bet would be to request the entire MPRJ from NPRC. They should also provide NOK data and last known address. May no longer be accurate, but would give a good 'stepping off' point.

MSgt (Join to see), was it this guy? I ask because this story has been going around, and people sometimes think they're still looking for him, but this particular individual has been found.

That is an interesting story sir thanks. I really have little information on the tag. The only thing I know it is USMC and has a old service number. My uncle who lives a couple hundred miles from me just called this morning. He knows I'm pretty involved in RP and wanted me to ask around with the vast knowledge of folks on RP. Hopefully I will have more info soon. I appreciate the input sir.

There should be some record by Service number - I think they still used that instead of SSN then. Not sure where to start, other than Veteran archives or Casualty archives.

Yes it had the old service number. And I was pretty sure that's what they used in Vietnam. Thank you for the info.

You might try here too: I don't mean to be macabre, but there are a whole lot more guys that lived through it than not, so I'm thinking about a process of elimination.
