The attached interview with MG Tomas Wilkerson (Ret.) is six years old and yet it appears that the issues discussed have yet to be adequately addressed, What is your take on this? General Wilkerson was with the JCS, commanded the largest group of Marines ever, was CEO of the US Naval institute press and, recently heads up the Medal of Honor foundation. I have had the privilege of knowing him personally and professionally in the past. He is a fascinating and soft spoken conversationalist.

Cpl Dennis F., MG WIlkerson sounds like a great guy - smart. You're lucky to know him.
One quote from the interview that I especially liked: "The military is at war, America is at the mall." Very true. Iraq and Afghanistan probably didn't affect the average (non-military) American terribly much.
And whether the military lacks goals has a lot to do with political leadership. Our strategic military goals are really set by our political leaders and our Commander-in-Chief. I think we generally do what needs to be done. If our country lacks military goals, that's a criticism of our political leaders.
