I've been working to rescue dogs, and working with dogs who we've rescued since I moved back stateside. One issue that's always bothered me is the ban on breed specific dogs on post. I currently live off post so I'm not really experiencing any problems, but I'd like to get the communities thoughts on it.

For me, like humans, some dogs could be born "bad", but it's definitely not dependent on their breed. In my eyes, it's more about the owner than the dog. Now we have Soldiers forcefully giving up their family pets, and as much time and money is spent studying other things, the Army would rather just conform and follow society when it comes to this, with no realization the vast amount of families they're really affecting.

Makes about as much sense (i.e. none at all) to me as bans on certain categories of weapons (nunchucks, switchblades, saps, modern repeating rifles, etc.).

It could be argued that those with a propensity to misuse animals are attracted to those breeds, but that sauce is weak at best.

I have never lived on post and I don't think I ever will.  Too many rules on everything from what dogs you can have to who can stay at your house and for how long.  So many things that would be a non issue off base are a big deal on.
