1968 WS Gm5: Jose Feliciano performs natonal anth…: http://youtu.be/aQkY2UFBUb4
This was the very first time that the National Anthem was sing in another version than a march. In the moment, it doomed Jose Feliciano's career. The American people took it as an offense and a disrespect act to the Nation in something so american as the Baseball World Series. He was banned from the radio, his record stopped selling and now nobody sings the Anthem in the march version.

Did he bounce back? Or have we finally found an example of bad publicity in the field of music?

TSgt (Join to see), Jose Feliciano did bounce back in the '70's with a famous holiday hit "Feliz Navidad" and the theme song to "Chico and the Man".

TSgt (Join to see) after that, he bounced high enough to win a total of 8 Grammy Awards, and as SGT (Join to see) said, the Feliz Navidad song is a hit that still plays in national radio. SSG Tim Everett this was a big new in Puerto Rico that had pass trough generations.

And so it is proven true once again, "There is no such thing as bad publicity" . . . at least for musicians.

Canadians are, indeed, classy people.
Just wondering how many Americans, besides myself, would be able to recite the Canadian National Anthem if the same scenario occurs if Canadian professional sports team plays in the US?

I'm torn. I want to say the Jimi Hendrix version will always be awesome to me. But I also remember when a little kid named Sebastian de la Cruz sang it (I think in San Antonio) and was immediately blasted online by a bunch of bigots. Naturally, the mayor invited him to come back and do it again.
