In the colder weather hot chocolate is made to keep us warm and in my case sane. There are many options of how to do it. Do you use chocolate mix, chocolate syrup, or mix? Do you use water or milk? Do you add whip cream to the top or not.

Set out two large mugs. Put a peppermint stick in each.
Shave a half pound of semi-sweet or dark semi-sweet chocolate.
In a small saucepan combine shaved chocolate and a quarter cup (1 stick) of butter, stirring frequently.
In a medium saucepan bring 4 cups of milk almost to a boil. Stir occasionally.
Once either the milk or the chocolate inevitably burn, pour the whole mess down the garbage disposal, then throw out the peppermint, and fill the mugs with bourbon.
Drink both.

I love recipes. I think we need a hot chocolate contest between SSG Sara Sutton , 1SG (Join to see) , and SGT(P) Gloria Francis and of course the others when they start joining the discussion. I of course would be willing to be a judge.... MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca might join me in the judging if he does not enter the contest himself. Maybe have CPT Laurie H. and other administrators join us as well.

1SG (Join to see) you had me at bourbon! I love bourbon! I have never tried it in hot chocolate! I usually enjoy peppermint schnapps in my hot cocoa but I will have to try this!!

I used to only use syrup on ice cream, but now I use it for my chocolate milk. I have yet to use it for hot chocolate but may make the leap this year.
