I was recently selected to direct commission and was told to start thinking about where I wanted to PCS. I want to know where are some typical duty locations and assignments for a 70B so I can realistically build my wish list.

I too was a DAP for 70B, several years ago. I recommend looking at locations with Medical Brigades, Combat Support Hospital/Field Hospitals, and Military Treatment Facilities. You should seek a Platoon Leader Position first, then you can either continue as an XO or take a Staff assignment. Examples are Patient Admin, Brigade Medical Supply Officer, Medical Operations Officer, Deputy S-6 for a CSH (Or Information Management Division in an MTF). You should really start exploring the AOCs now so you can link assignments with what you would like to do once the designation process starts at 6-8 years of Commissioned Service. I’m a 70K and wish that someone (mentor in the MSC) would have spoken to me about all the developmental assignments I could have looked into before designating. Are you going Active Duty? I thought those slots were gone and only USAR was available. Lastly, education plays a huge role in what you will designate as. MBA, MHA, MSIT, MS in planning and operations. Let me know if you have any more questions, I’m happy to assist.

I am one of the few unicorns, I am an active duty 70b. I think I want to transition to 70A. I feel like the description of what they do align with what I want to do. I look forward to completing my masters and I want to get a PhD as well. Everyone has told me to be a platoon leader first and I will. Thank you for the advice

1LT (Join to see) if you really want to be a 70A, then you need to start planning to take command as soon as you pin Captain in 4 years. As a 1LT, I’d start preparing for the GRE and then learn more about LTHET, and how to get accepted to the Baylor MHA program. That’ll be the best way to ensure designation as a 70A. I would dismiss the other AOCs yet. They also have a lot to offer. Seek mentors in each AOC (Majors) and learn as much as you can before you commit. Good luck.

Do you want CONUS or OCONUS? I picked Bragg, but only do that if you want to get airborne qualified. Legs are not treated the best there. Europe would be nice.

Actually it doesn't matter if it's CONUS or OCONUS. I honestly don't think I'm physically ready for airborne school. I'm not out of shape but I know I would have to train up to be a first time go for the school.

I would pick Europe and use the weekends to see what their is to see. You can go all over easily by train.

If this is you AOC (70B) there is no place that the army is located that you cant go! As PAD officer you can be assigned anyplace.

I became a PAD officer after I left active duty in 1982. I was on AD as an enlisted person for 8 Yrs.. With exception to my deployment to Iraq. I deployed to Kosovo and a stint to Egypt and they were not fun.
