Charlie Hebdo Office in Paris Attacked by Gunmen; 12 Killed
Satirical Magazine Targeted in Past for Cartoons on Islam;
Hollande Calls Shooting a Terror Attack

Here are the facts of the case as reported in the WSJ
Updated Jan. 7, 2015 10:07 p.m. ET

PARIS—Masked gunmen stormed the offices of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday, killing at least a dozen people and decimating a newsroom that long took pride in defying the outrage—and death threats—stirred by its caricatures lampooning Islam.

The rampage shocked a nation that has been living in dread of reprisal attacks since joining the fight against Islamist insurgents in Africa and the Middle East. The attack—by gunmen armed with AK-47 rifles—triggered an outpouring of public anger at home and expressions of solidarity from around the world.

Three suspects, all Frenchmen, were identified late Wednesday, a police officer said. They are Said Kouachi, 34 years old; his brother Cherif Kouachi, 32; and 18-year-old Hamyd Mourad.

Mr. Mourad turned himself in to police, the Paris prosecutor’s office said. French police released photos of the two other suspects, appealing to the public for information.

French authorities deployed a vast dragnet to search for the suspects. As part of the manhunt, special forces were mobilized Wednesday night in the city of Reims, about 100 miles east of Paris, to search an apartment, said the officer.

What are you thoughts on this terrorism...incite fear...retaliation...revenge Muhammad...is it really worth killing innocent people over satire? Or is this the seriousness that we will soon all have to deal with. If a school doesn't allow a student to wear a burqa, will the face retaliation from a crazy extremist group?
If so, then anytime they want something, all they have to do is kill, defile, murder, rape and our laws will change to keep them happy.

Question is, is there a cure for extremism? If so, what is it? I think we as a nation shouldn't be bargaining with the form of extremism...but the patterns and behaviors of the local authorities say otherwise. Are we too bigoted against Muslims?

I think they will, especially once the bullets start flying here in the homeland.

This is obviously a tragedy and it demonstrates the brutality of Jihadists. It also demonstrates that their tactics, such as beheadings, and now this targeted wiping out of the editorial staff of a French magazine, tend to work. They are terrorists and they are terrorizing.

It will be interesting to see if "Charlie Hebdo" comes back and continues as it was.

Islamic terrorists is the name I would give them. No more pc for me on this subject. This will not stop unless we call it what it is and fight it the way it needs to be fought. These guys where trained decently enough to cover each other going down the road. That scares me!!! They went out of their way to kill an unarmed police officer and then returned to the get away car. Hopefully the media doesn't bow down to these loons. The White house needs to see this for what it is too!!!

Well it depends. Situations like these are independently reliant on the specific groups. I recognize the fear and unknown aspect of the media. I believe the terrorists and other enemies of our way of life is currently winning the propaganda war. It is unfortunate too.

It brings up another problem I see with the credibility of our media. They are on the television screen all of the time. We may not realize it but we can get conditioned to believe their reporting. They have cleverly made a "milkshake" of social influence with merging the entertainment (by this I mean talking heads) with real news. I seen the ugly side of this negative effect while deployed during the 2008 election cycle.

I hope some day our society puts the news back in it place. Reporting the news and not replacing the church pulpit. Now, crime, scandal, disaster, all negative, is all we hear. Believe it or not if you listen too much of the garbage you start to believe stereotypes and cast them over all groups. Exactly what our enemy wants to do. While we are busy fighting amongst ourselves our enemy can do things like blend in protesters committing acts of violence an igniting a police war and soon a race and religion war is coming next. Just my opinion.

Sorry, I thought that was a rhetorical question. Of course our (mostly leftist) media will be on one knee before the terrorists. For the most part they have given up the right to be considered legitimate news sources when more often than not their stories are influenced by their oppinions and beliefs. I wish there was a major news source here in America that was completely straight shootin', just the facts and pulled no punches. I do believe that would get a large enough following by Americans both left and right of center to possibly influence the current mainstream media to follow their lead.

Too many external influences, advertisers, and money makers for the news to be straight. That just isn't realistic...FOX was as straight as it gets...not sure how right or left you are but...I can hardly watch any of them any more.

I would say that BBC is probably the most neutral and fact finding, but like you I cant hardly watch any of them. As far as where I stand on the Left/Right Scale; I am generally just a little right of the Tea Party.

Considering that it has gone worse over there, after the bowing down, and our leader diplomat, johnny ketchup kerry stating "there was a rational" for the charlie hebdo attack, and not proclaim radical islam threat is very telling. It seems the crazy leftwing nutjobd liberals can't seem to have any good basis to defend gun free zones and little munition to mask terrorism with their usual "racist islamophobe" comments
