My favorite "hack" is that of making a fire bed during very cold weather. This actually predates the modern military and was probably a common practice with members of Roger's Rangers or other like minded folks. Fire beds would fall more under survival situations as opposed to anything tactical, but hey - we're talking camping, not E & E. A good example (although humorous in this instance) can be found in the movie "Jeremiah Johnson".

I could of used a fire bed today -7. But yes leaning how to radiate heat. Very similar in principle is boiling water with heated rocks in something that would burn over a fire.

SPC Michael Dillon My departed wife also caught cabin fever. ‘Back when’, we were hard corps and borrowed a tent from a neighbor and went tent camping on the Kern River above Bakersfield, CA.

Our elder son, 7 years old, was wearing a cast on his leg which had been broken while he was on a bicycle.

No sweat GI ! We were hard
corps !
