I like my job but have this desire to do more/have a greater impact. I’m interested in deploying or if possible working in a capacity that would allow me to use my clearance.

I’ve tried becoming PROFIS but due to the new way PROFIS is being done my unit isn’t adding people now just switching over those already on the list. I have added myself to the MODS list since I’m medical.

I am aware of opportunities in SOC, CID, and other packet MOS’.

I also know that PCSing early is unlikely. Does anyone know of any opportunities that aren’t well known that I can take advantage of? Or even if it’s possible to create an opportunity?

Hey bud,
You are a bit limited by your MOS, I will have to ask around. Have you thought of reclassing? I am not aware of any operational SOF opportunities for your MOS, but I will ask.

I know MSG. I have thought of reclassifying but it’s nearly impossible, unless I go SOF. I have attended CAAS once and was not selected at that time. I fully plan on going back when I can. My MOS is always red on the In/Out list. It were so short they were offering $45k for 3 year reenlistments.

Just seeing if there is anything out there for my MOS.

Talk to JSOC recruiters about getting into the JMAU (joint medical augmentation unit).

What is the JMAU? And just JSOC or SORB too?

Essentially the medical unit for JSOC. SORB doesn't deal with them, JSOC does its own thing. Has to because its Joint, not a specific service.

CW2 (Join to see) that’s pretty cool, SFC. Did a quick google search and found minimal info, kinda expect that. I’ll try and find more info on it.

So this is my question for you, what kinds of opportunities are you looking for? Because just saying I want to do something will quickly get you into an unfavorable condition. As a 68C you have the availability to move into a BSN program which will get you deployed upon completion of school. You can look at additional medical certs. Or you can drop a reclass packet for 68w and look for a line position to deploy with. You can get an EMT-B and look for flight medic. Or you can try pcsing to a CSH if you want to stay a C they do pcs rotations. Or if you can pass selection volunteer to go to socm and go 18D. I hope those gave you some places to go. But I dont know that there is really a quick fix

That’s very true SGT. I intentionally left it open like that because I’ve come to realize if I were to list three things people would think I’m only open to doing those three things, when I’m open to doing more.

A lot of the options I have are not the most feasible. If I did the BSN program I’d have to redo 80% of a degree. I have an undergrad but it’s not a hard science so I’d have to do like 30-40 credits of lower level science and then all the nursing courses, which is pretty much starting a bachelors from nothing again.

68C are not eligible to attend the F2 course. It’s only open to 68W.

And to reclassify out of an under strength MOS (68C) to an over strength MOS (68W) would be improbable to impossible.

I am in a wait period before I’m eligible to return to CAAS. I was a not select due to needing more military experience.

Id be ok with going to a CSH. It’d mean I’d be able to train and have a better chance to deploy.

If there isn’t a way to change the situation that’s fine. I’ll continue making the best of my situation and continue to take advantage of the short list of opportunities at my current duty station.
