There is a high probability that the Army is paying for your travel from Benning to Bragg. I recommend you speak with your Cadre at Airborne to get a definitive answer.

Why couldn't the Army reimburse the family at the standard rate? I assume that they still don't require you to drive more than 400 mi./day?

Talk to your Cadre, don’t start your career off being a “hot-head” deliberately doing whatever you want instead of what the Army tells you, that’s the quickest way to have a short career. Listen, just because someone else did something they wasn’t suppose to do doesn’t make it right, it means they have no integrity. Talk with your cadre, let him know what your intentions are and go from there.
If you take a different mode if travel other than what’s been authorized and something happens to you, your family will not receive your SGLI. Always do the right thing whether you’re on or off duty...that’s what squared away Soldiers with integrity do....good luck to you....

Even if they were wearing their seatbelts won’t help him if they have been up for a whole day trying to make a trip that should take five days. If you talk to your NCO Cadre they should be able to tell you the ways you will be able to get to your duty station. It does get easier when you PCS next time. PFC Jeffrey Herrington

The 82nd in my day would send a C130 to Ft Benning which the troops would make their Cherry Jump into one of the LZs on Bragg. I am sure they only did it for a large class of graduates which I flew out commercial. I'd have loved to jump with the boys but our commander COL Beckwith only wanted pay jumps due to manpower shortages during the Iranian Hostage crisis.
