Is a DUI Regimental Pin authorized for wear by a 2LT at Commissioning?

I have been asked by an ROTC Cadet who is commissioning in May if he can wear the DUI of the unit he is joining. He is an ECP Cadet who has a letter of acceptance from a Reserve unit close to where he will be completing his 4 year degree. His LOA has him a branch assignment and will wear that insignia at commissioning. He wants to know if he can wear the DUI for the unit he is joining. I've been out a while so I figured some here will have the latest regulations? I might add the DUI pin is actually a brigade level pin, not regimental.

If he is assigned to a unit, the Distinctive Unit Insignia is authorized.

1SG, thanks. He just hasn't reported to this unit yet, and won't be until after commissioning. They will have this young soon-to-be 2LT in the S3 shop working as a Plans Officer. A perfect spot for a green 2LT..:) I wasn't sure if he could wear the DUI until he reported.

AR 670-1 (22)(b) states personnel in the AGR and ROTC simultaneously membership programs will wear the DUI of the commands, units, and agencies to which attached.
d. Authorized wearers. When a DUI is authorized, "all personnel assigned to the organization will wear the insignia...."
The requirement for wear appears to be "is assigned."

MAJ Chris Canizares the Cadet should wear either no RDI or one he was eligible to wear (either by PMOS or previous service). If he has successfully served in the unit he has been accepted to, great. He may wear that DUI as his Regimental affiliation. If he hasn't, I would not.

a. Authorization. Insignia used to represent regimental affiliation consists of either the RDI or DUI of a design ap- proved by TIOH. A Soldier’s regimental affiliation using an RDI is based on a Soldier’s branch/corps/special branch, as determined by PMOS or specialty. Soldiers may wear the RDI for their affiliated regiment or may wear the DUI for a unit in which they are serving or have previously served successfully, based on their assignment history as indicated in their official personnel record.
b. How worn. See DA Pam 670–1."
The latest regulation is available to all via APD.
If he is OD, QM, SC, TC, EN, MSC, etc, he'll likely be directed at BOLC to wear their RDI, change his ORB, and weigh the choice of standing boards with other than PmOs RDI on his ORB and DA Photo. OD was hard over about it. After all my boards had run their Course I changed my RDI to 506th Infantry Regiment after serving in that regiment (4th BCT 101st ABN) in Afghanistan.
