I am still waiting on an interim TS-SCI in order to be slotted for MICCC (branch detailed). It looks like I may now not be slotted for a class for up to six months after I arrive at Huachuca.

1. Is it possible to get slotted to an earlier class if you are already there waiting?
2. Are there specific positions available to MI officers waiting to class up? I.e. AIT Company XO

Any firsthand experience or observations are appreciated!

1. You won’t get slotted for an earlier class
2. You will get an opportunity to attend most MI specific courses you request while you wait (CM, ISR, etc) and during the meantime you will fill needed roles in the S1, S3, Company XOs, etc.

3. Lot of bad advise on this site, message me if you want the “ground truth”.

I have many questions related to your situation, but I think the biggest one is why your TS-SCI is only an interim if you were identified branch detail. Why didn't your BOLCI staff initiate TS-SCI so you are not in this situation in the first place? Either way. I was an instructor at 111th, so I got to witness what happened to all the "snowbirds." You will probably be on casual detail until your class begins. But, it's not bad at all for you. Not a bad idea to keep your eyes open for courses with open seats. Some of the long term snowbirders took advantage of things like SI-1D, 35G, etc. when the classes had open seats due to lower than expected demand. Doesn't hurt to have some extra MI training. I would also encourage you to see if ABIC has open slots. There really is not a position you could occupy in the interim unless one of the companies is failing to get an incoming LT to be an XO or something. Casual can be a good time though. When I was casual detail having been stuck at Huachuca for 3 months after the MICCC due to the government shutdown in 2013, I helped write the new scenario for the MICCC culmination exercise. Also got to escort a Congressional Delegation for a week. There's always opportunities to do stuff out there.

Yeah. As a person who served as an SSO in several jobs, someone was not doing their job. Starting TS only requires authorization from the Battalion Commander with a logical justification. Many S2s and SSOs think they are part of the investigative process and should screen potential applicants. That’s not our job. Anywho. The masters is a whole individual philosophy. Mine is if you are going to get a masters, it should be in something that will serve the Army well and yourself when you get out. Though there are many things you can get your masters in the intel and security realm, many of them will only serve you well if you plan on never leaving that realm. This is why I’m getting my masters in an applied math and engineering discipline. Cyber is another field that will serve you well in both. CPT(P) (Join to see)

Sir, there are no open IC (the course formerly known as ABIC) slots anymore. Getting my instructors to it is the scourge of my existence these days. Good seeing you again!

Beg, borrow, and steal. Between the schoolhouse and the NCOA, it’s a struggle for the rest of USAICoE to get slots. Lots of drug deals and such. It’s really hard for people not in instructor slots to get in- I haven’t seen any in 8 or so classes (though I’m not checking every person in every class). Kelly Ops gets two slots per class. Period. No more. I have some instructors who wait 3 months or more. I’ve actually had to turn down a few NET events... those things we are obligated by 350-1 to support because we don’t have qualified instructors, even though I have the billets filled.

Call your branch they should be able to tell you what’s available.
