You are right COL Smallfield, while this is good for a counter propaganda message; airstrikes do not take ground. there is a dire need for a ground fighting force to be employed against this threat. the big question is where will it come from and who will lead it? There is too many political variables and obstacles currently in place for anybody to step up and answer this call. I would imagine that we will continue to push others to take the lead and strengthen CT capabilities of anybody willing to take on this action. This threat has spread to Egypt, Libya and rumors now fly about ISIS getting a foothold in Afghanistan at a time when the international community continues its drawdown. While it may seem an instantaneous gratification of pulling out of Afghanistan, I fear these actions will eventually come back to haunt us.
