Are male Soldiers authorized to wear earrings?

Fellow service members that are commenting on this discussion, please read the regulation that is listed above. He clearly lists an Army regulation and is asking if it is allowed for males to wear earrings. Responding to the posts with either "hear say" or your "opinion" on why its not authorized is inconclusive to those who are looking for information or guidance. Please provide a reference or two when responding to these posts, a well educated NCO/Officer can better lead our younger service members.

I am confused. Where is there a question when you post the direction that specifically says no to males wearing earrings. As I read this, he is either wondering, why in the hell do others not get it or he is whining that it is not right or he is simply asking the question and providing the correct answer for those who do not get it.
If one wanted to take this to an extreme a necklace is affixed to the neck; a bracelet is affixed to the wrist. Where is the affixed line drawn? So, maybe there are some questions. My grandmother used to use clip on ear rings. I have also seen magnetic ear, lip and nose rings.

if this is how far they micro manage soldiers, then end off base housing, and stop all contact off base with anyone. stop all passes. yet another fine example of stupidity of an Army in need of good people, but constantly on the war path to find a reason to not allow someone. and always looking for a reason to throw someone out. we are citizen soldiers, and not hoplites and this is not Sparta!

It's actually not a clear no since based on this reg males actually are able to wear earrings. The Army is stupid, but they are smart enough to put, "male Soldiers are not authorized to wear earrings" if that was their intent. A simple understanding of sentence structure makes this reg clear and easy to understand.

The answer to your question is already in the excerpt you provided from AR 670-1. By the regulation, there is no prohibition against earrings out of uniform, so long as you are off military property.
Having said that, I'd advise you to check your local base policy letters.

AR 670-1 has provided males 3 circumstances in which they cannot attach, affix, or display objects, articles, jewelry, or ornamentation to or through the skin:<br>1. in uniform;<br>2. in civilian clothes on-duty;<br>3. in civilian clothes off-duty;<br>and continues to clarify that this includes earrings for male Soldiers.<br><br>I guess we can expect to start seeing a lot of nude male Soldiers running around with their overwhelming desire to wear earrings.<br><br>It would be even easier if AR 670-1 just said "Males are not authorized wear earrings or body piercings of any type."<br>

it's pretty clear.... in civilians, off duty on the base.... if they're off post then can wear/show/display what they want when it comes to jewelry.
Some commands use AR 600-20 Para 4-4 to tighten civilian dress codes:
a. Ensuring the proper conduct of Soldiers is a function of command. Commanders and leaders in the Army, whether on or off duty or in a leave status, will—
(1) Ensure all military personnel present a neat, soldierly appearance

Did you include that last part to say that earrings do not present a neat and Soldierly appearance? If so, why not?
