I know we beat the horse dead of trying to make Enlisted and Officer pay comparable, but now let us look at our pay compared to the pay of SM's around the global (a few at least). The first link compares base pay of USA and six additional countries base pays for first year of service at that rank. The second link is an article about Australia attempting to recruit American prior service personnel, and the comparison of pay.<div><br></div><div>What our your thoughts on our pay compared to our other brothers in arms? Do you think the reason they are not on top of the military power structure is because they over pay their troops? Or are we on top because we under pay ours? Other ideas are up for discussion as well.<br><div><br></div><div>1)&nbsp;http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=401194</div><div>2)http://www.stripes.com/news/serving-down-under-australia-offers-military-jobs-to-us-troops-facing-separation-1.176622?reminder=off</div></div><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="http://www.stripes.com/polopoly_fs/ [login to see] 461310!/image/ [login to see] .jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape_490/ [login to see] .jpg"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a target="_blank" href="http://www.stripes.com/news/serving-down-under-australia-offers-military-jobs-to-us-troops-facing-separation-1.176622?reminder=off">Serving Down Under: Australia offers military jobs to US troops facing separation</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">U.S. servicemembers looking at career options in this era of shrinking military budgets and force drawdowns might want to take a look Down Under.</div></div><div style="clear:both"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/images/neogaf2/icon_social.png"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a target="_blank" href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=401194">Army salaries per country</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description"> Army salaries per country Off-Topic Discussion</div></div><div style="clear:both"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div>

I think this highlights exactly what we already understand about our military. Especially after serving alongside our allies. We aren't better than the rest because we pay the most. It takes service beyond self to a whole new perspective. We are the best because of the ideals we uphold, mainly the seven army values and protecting the underdog from the bully on the playground.

Sir,<div><br></div><div>Taking that in consideration, should we be paying our service members more? With the high level of pay more people might be willing to join, and make this a career, like in many other countries. Having more people demanding to join would allow us to select only the best, and most fit personnel, allowing us to spend funding on better things than Body Weight Programs. Just a thought.</div>

I'm a bit surprised that this topic didn't take off a little better. I really want to understand how we justify our lower wages compared to out allies, and even worst how we have allie forces recruiting our prior service personnel with the benefit to make more money. Are we setting ourselves up for failure? Are we potentially allowing our best trained individuals to leave and train other countries men to be more capable?
