Deploying on Contract with civilian job, What are my options with drill?

I've been in the reserves for about a year now and I'm still trying to understand everything so bear with me.
I took a contract job with a company for a position in Kuwait. With this contract, I will be gone for about a year. What options do I have for my drill time? I was told by someone at my unit that I have the option of going IRR (which I would like to avoid if possible) or finding a unit in Kuwait that will give me credit for drilling with them once a month. However, he wasn't really familiar with the process; these were just options he's seen done by other Soldiers during his time in the reserves.
Does anyone have any insight or experience with this?

Talk to your CoC. If there is a unit nearby where you are going to be in Kuwait, you should be able to RST with that unit while you are gone. You'd just need to submit the RST requests in advance, get your CO to approve them and then have someone at the unit where you do your drill sign a DA1380 every month so you can submit it to your home unit for pay/credit.

If you don't want to go in the IRR. Log Into the HRC Website & look at the unit vacancies, specifically IMA Positions. You may be able to do all your drills at one time, and still get a good year. There are some units that let reservists do this... I've never been in one of those units, but it can't hurt to check it out.
If your current command/Commander will let you RST all the remaining Unit Training Assembly's (UTAs) at once for the remainder of this FISCAL YEAR, and then get all your UTAs done later in the year maybe you wouldn't have to switch units at all or go in the IRR.
We had a case in my current unit where a Soldier was deployed with his civilian job overseas, but still got his medical appointments/PHA done & his APFT done in country with another unit. If you're a good Soldier, they may make an exception for you.
