Long story short. ETSed from active duty 2016, joined reserves a month later. I had a civilian job as a telemarketer and did drills once a month. But now I am unemployed. Been unemployed since april and I am currently depending on drills and orders or RMA just to earn a little to try to pay my bills. I've searched everywhere for a job. Its just hard to find one in Puerto Rico. Im really struggling. I have dependants, my wife and 2 beautiful children. My oldest just started school, kindergarden. My youngest is almost a year old. I am behind all my bills. My landlord has looked out for us. If it hadnt been for my landlords kindness we would be homeless. I need to get back active duty for financial stability asap. My paperwork is currently at brigade level and I understand that they have thousands of soldiers to work with, however I need it approved and sent to CG. Any advice? Should I just take advantage of open door policy and talk with the brigade commander and CG?

Also, I understand CG does not have to approve the release. And I also understand that reserve units are normally understaffed so it might not even get approved. Honestly im just really worried because my family suffers. We had our electrical service interrupted a few times already. I have a baby at home and diapers, milk, wipes, clothes, etc aint cheep. And my daughter just started school so its been hard for us. I dont want my family to suffer. Sorry, im just really worried it get approved or it will take a few months more.

not many will agree with what I am about to say but it will get a result may not be a good one so make sure you think it over.. I was trying the same thing right before 9/11 and I had to do a congressional inquiry into it. I got my release pretty quick after that then 9/11 happened and I stayed with my unit since we got the call a week later to head to Ft. Bragg.

I would start with the open door and explain the situation or.. go on tour of duty and start applying for positions their. that will open some door for you as long as you do a good job.

Thank you for the information. I'm gonna try open door, hopefully they will understand. My Co mentioned reclassing and mobilizing with our unit next year and I agreed that its a great idea and it can be another option but i have to wait a bit... (still waiting on the release though)... but after mobilizing with my unit then what? Might find a job after that, might not. But going active my family and I will have a stable income. Its an option im highly considering, I just hope the release gets approved. Thank you! I hope you have a lovely day.

I would also look at tour of duty, they have openings posted and you do a few of those and get good evaluations and recommendations from those tours will only help
