I was reading a memoir recently of a B-29 navigator in the Pacific during WWII and his group was based on Tinian island in the middle of no where. I looked up the island (image attached) and it was beautiful. It reminded me of the US outposts on Bora Bora and I thought "how awesome would it have been to be stationed in such a pretty location?" When I was deployed my COP was near some ancient Persian ruins and that was one of the prettiest things I saw thanks to Uncle Sam.

Pics if you got 'em!

For me, probably Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany (1st two photos) or Queenstown, New Zealand (last two photos).

Free trip to NZ sounds amazing. While it wasn't for the Army, Uncle Sam did pay for my flight to French Polynesia when I took leave.

Garmisch has to be one of the most gorgeous places I got to go to in my Army travels.

SGT Philip Roncari Brother, in Vietnam we were wet most of the time from rain or sweat. In the mountains, I was cold. There was beauty but most of the time we were too tired and miserable to enjoy it.

SGT Theodore M.Hallock - My unit was actually issued green OD sweaters in the Central Highlands ,they even had those leather patches on the shoulders, must have overnighted them from Germany ,too funny, boy were they heavy when wet! great to hear from you Ted ,bin awhile.
