Why can't reinstating the AF Warrant Officer program gain any traction?

As we know, other branches are fortunate enough to benefit from the Warrant Officer ranks; why can't Airman have such a luxury? With decreasing retention and funding, increasing cutbacks and the lack of mature specialized knowledge, wouldn't it fit in today's force?

It's really sad that the MP career field isn't tranferable to the civilian world. Best friend in the service was an MP, I was not but got my Bachelors in forensic science. We both applied for a few local departments. They told him that they don't view the AF MP position as something that would creditable experience. How messed up is that!?

I suppose the good side of that is, those few local departments didn't consider the military to be troublesome enough to challenge MPs at that credible level. Maybe that speaks to the MP presence as a deterrent too.

I think the problem would be how do you go about identifying which posistions should be a WO? I am sure a case could be made that every career field is important enough to have a WO, but that wouldn't be logical. With that said, which positions do you think would qualify for the WO rank in the AF? TAC-P ? IDMT'S? AIRCREW? PARA LEGALS? I think the AF would have a hard time identifying specific positions without "ego attacking" other positions.

Great point! I'm a little bias as an Air Traffic Controller; as I watch young Airmen enter the Air Force only to leave a few years later with high 5-figure/low 6-figure job offers, while at the same time fussing because of the disbanding of SRBs. Knowing this careerfield and the variety of personnel that come into the Air Force for this career, I can say that I haven't known of too many jobs in which members separate more quickly because of the monetary gain on the civilian side. But as you say, a case could be made regarding the importance for WOs across the board. Thanks for commenting.
