I’m currently out of the military but a 31B (MP) but I’m trying to come back into a different MOS, but it’s PAST time for my 5. Will I have to keep waiting for my stripes or can I look forward to getting promoted in AIT?

If you come back you will need to stand in front of a promotion board once you arrive to your unit. Keep in mind the unit’s NCO leadership dictates when. Even with automatic promotions - when allowed - they can throw a monkey wrench on your path until they have a positive assessement of your leadership potential and capabilities.

NO, you will have to 1- make the necessary points for the new MOS cutoff,2. go to a promotion board and be recommended for promotion- which probably till you get to your new duty station.

When I was in AIT there was a group of SPCs that had reenlisted. They weren't part of our unit and they didn't even have drill sergeants. One of them insisted he was going to be promoted to SGT and kept telling us how his recruiter gave him a date and everything. This was at a time when 25F had 350 points to get E-5.
He was never promoted to SGT the entire time we were in AIT. Pretty sure he was full of shit.
