K-16 Air Base is still a military facility, no matter how inactive it is from this point of view. The good news for civilians and reserve troops is that the base is also open for them, whether they look forward to stay in shape or they look after a short vacation. There are not too many facilities built here, but those that exist include a lot of recreational areas, such as a golf field for example. Other than that, the authorities invested over $12M in a new community center. The current facilities are more than enough. Most visitors will enjoy what they will see here. The center includes indoor games, as well as a bowling hall for the fans. Interested in mailing your relatives? The post office is always available for the visitors.

I was assigned to the 595th maintenance company on K-16 when i got to Korea. I was a 45B small arms Repairman at the time. Being a Korean installation, they did not allow for a weapons facility on the base. I was reassigned to HHC, 227TH Maint Bn. At Yongsan army garrison in Seoul. Only spent 5 days at K-16 and the place was pretty barren then.

K-16 is a Korean Air Base that is used like Andrews for Presidential planes and other dignitaries. Many American units that couldn't find a home have been stuffed into this base following closures and realignment. The base is just barely 85 acres with two long runways. In recent times it has been referred to as the "dumping yard". There have been upgrades to the base too.

SGT Roberto Mendoza-Diaz, apologies for your error. I have served in the ROK at Yongsan, Kim, K16 and at Panmunjom. I spent two years in the ROK with USFK/CFC J2, SOC-K and UNCMAC. Kindly be careful before you attempt to slam others. I might have consulted another source, but that doesn't mean I haven't served in the ROK, Roberto.
