I have a good friend whose kid is considering joining the military and looking specifically at the Army. Here is the catch, the kid has a documented history of "cutting" and has done a stint in a rehab facility for it and now sees a therapist.

So the question is, how likely is a potential recruit to get a waiver to join?

MSgt Copeland,
I know we IM'd about this, but I think you should also look at AFI 36-2001. Since I'm not in anymore, I'm not sure how you could get ahold of it, maybe on the Portal. You would also want to check "PGMs" (procedural guidance messages) from AFRS to make sure there is nothing added to the AFI specific to these issues. I do distinctly remember something about "self mutilation" in AFI 36-2001 however.

Join nearly 2 million former and current members of the US military, just like you.
