Larry Hamlett stood at crisp attention hundreds of times during the past decade as the bodies of men and women he never knew were solemnly lowered into their graves.

I wish I could have been there.
This is the kind of man I would make the drive for.
Instead, I'll share the words to "Taps". I think that Mr Hamlett would approve.

Day is done, gone the sun

From the lakes, from the hills, from the sky
All is well, safely rest
God is nigh.

Fading light dims the sight
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright
From afar, drawing near
Falls the night.

Thanks and praise for our days
Neath the sun, neath the stars, neath the sky
As we go, this we know

God is nigh.

I wish I could honor him by being a member of his Firing Party. CW5 (Join to see) did this plenty of times in Arlington National Cemetery. Monty was only there a little over a year but I was there for 3.5 years and pulled 375 funerals. This detail was divided between 5 different platoons. I remember doing as many as 7 funerals in one day but each one was an honor to do.

SFC Boots Attaway I lived in Bldg 402 on Ft Myer and had Echo Company living in the building while they renovated their barracks and it was constant from before dawn to dusk with them. I tip my hat to you and CW5 (Join to see).

SGT Jim Z., ironically Monty and I were in Echo Company when we were there. Back then they were the ONLY company that could wear the Honor Guard Tab and their Firing Party Plt was called the Presidential Firing Party Plt with the First Squad being called The Presidential Firing Party.

This is a great example of some true patriots still serving selflessly. Fills me with pride seeing great stories like this patriot that continue to serve. They are a national treasure!
