Is there an actual "S1" position at the Company level?

We have a line Company Clerk that insists on putting "S-1" as their job title. It was my understanding that the S-1 position is for Battalion or Brigade levels only. (However, I have read that sometimes there is an S-1 at the HHC level.) I just want to make sure before I say anything. Thanks!

There's no S1 position at a company level. However, some USASOC units like to embed a 42A at the company levels as a dedicated S1 rep, essentially an S1 for the company. It's really a matter of unit SOP and preference

The Marines call their PLs "Platoon Commanders" so i guess everyone wants a trophy now.

on what are they putting "S-1" as their job title? And does it really matter? If they are performing "S-1" functions what difference does it make if you call them S-1 or company clerk. Unless, of course, they are trying to make people think they are "THE" S-1.

I agree as long as they're not trying to make people think they are "THE" S-1 does it really matter? They are doing the same job but at a lower level. If it really bothers someone, I guess they can explain there's no such title at the company level, but other than that leave the kid alone. It's no big deal.
