I tried going through CHESS (asc.army.mil), but no luck.

The deal for 2019 edition for $20 ended a while back. Now it's a 30% discount on Office 365, that's still $70 for a year. Not bad at all, but cheaper is better. Any help?

I won't pay for annual subscription to a program which should be purchased one time for a fixed fee.

PFC Jeffrey Herrington - I still use the 2007 version because I am content with how it works. I won't upgrade because they stopped putting the programs on disk. I have my old disks and reload to computer as I need to upgrade the computers.

I quit using MS Office when I learned that most things there could be done on Google Drive for free.

SGT (Join to see) - the Pacific Rim has a unique relationship with intellectual property. I've bought the $20 "official" copy out in the market before.

LTC Jason Mackay - Your assessment of my needs are spot on. As a retiree my needs are very simple. But I do use the word processor and spreadsheets quite a bit, and on rare occasions their Power Point.

PFC Jeffrey Herrington - Your point is so correct. I still have MS Office on one of my computers, and can't even remember the last time I used it because I don't like that computer. But if you're trying to use Google Documents instead of MS Office for work, or even school, you're probably going to find yourself in trouble some day.

Microsoft has their own response to Google's free software:

I believe there is an Open Office program, you can find it through Google. I actually use Google docs and sheets.
