As a leader, our responsibility is to take care of Soldiers. But let's say the Soldier leaves and did not receive their award for PCS or retirement because it was lost or not maintained? Fast forward six months to a year, and your supervisor says your job is take care of Soldiers, when they really mean "take care of the ones that are here right now." Do Soldiers no longer in your formation not matter?

I still get calls, texts, and messages from Soldiers that I supervised 15 years ago. Why do you think that is? As a leader all Soldiers matter and you should always try to make yourself available to help them. The award you speak of should continue to be a priority, how the Soldier was allowed to leave the unit/service without an award amazes me.

I just got done messaging with a PFC here on RP asking a question about a school. I have never even met the Soldier but I tried to help him as much as I could. If you don't make time for your Soldiers and truly all Soldiers are yours, you are not much of a leader in my book.

It seems like it is more of an inconvenience. The LT literally told me last night, "the Soldier is not a member of the current formation. That's the previous command's problem." I ended up telling him to fuck off and walked away as the commander was talking. Was it important? I'll never know, not that I really care.

Wow! Man you gotta get out of that unit. I recall having a few discussions with you about your unit operations. Hang in there brother.

I'm trying, but I have essentially given up. I talked to the retiree last night and let him now. He's working on contacting the CG right now. I had other stuff I wanted to say, but then I'd be airing out my personal issues. He complained he's under stress. Let's just say that it is a struggle for me to keep it together with everything that is going on with me personally. I'm truly at a breaking point.

Your Soldiers ALWAYS matter, and even after PCS or even retirement they should not EVER be forgotten. If you treat them the way you want to be treated, hopefully this will mean that you will be treated in the same manner. Even if you aren't, you still did the right thing.
