Having a hard time interpreting ALARACT 038-2020 that says no more than 10 PCS leave days to include travel. ; later it says that PTDY and Ordinary leave is to be requested by gaining unit. So is PCS leave chargeable or is it travel days?

In regard to the ALARACT what it means is that if your travel time is six days you can only take the six days of leave which are your travel days and not chargeable leave. No personal leave days. If you’re flying OCONUS you’ll only fly straight there and no leave in conjunction with PCS.

SSG Daniel Rodriguez Cortes Jr., great question. I am in the same boat and will love to get some clarification because my S1 is quarantined now.

When you pcs.you need a da 31. Based on how far you are going they have a matrix for how many travel days are authorized. If say, youre authorized 4 days; you could only tack on 6 on that particular leave form. The 4 days would not be chargeable.

Originally I read it as you described; a total of 10 days and if it takes you 3 days to travel then 7 are chargeable. My BDE S1 is saying what SFC Jason Boyd stated.

Been out a little while but it used to be regardless of how long you took to get there, it is when you signed out and when you sign back in. If the travel time allowed is six days and you take ten to sign back in, then four days is chargeable. Used to be that you were only to travel 350 miles in one day which drives the basis for the amount of travel time.
