How do you feel about this young mans design on this weapon?

A young man has been working on a design to make weapons so they will only fire with the rightful persons finger print. I can see where this could save some lives. But what will it cost to do and if a party passes away and the weapons are inherited or you want a friend to go to the range and shoot your weapon how would that work? Its always fun to try out a buddies new weapon.
Personally if I was the designer I would fix it so that the weapon would not fire without the band to go around it and not worry about it making sure it has the correct finger print on it. I do understand that it would still be a risk to fire if a burglar or someone got your weapon from you they would still be able to use it but not without the band. For one never pull a weapon on a burglar or have a weapon out if you are not intending to use it. If you have doubts about your ability to keep and use the weapon in a burglary do not have it or get proper training in martial arts as well. But it would help the children situation. If the parent has to leave the weapon or carries it like the one child got the weapon out of mothers purse and shot the mother. If the mother had the band on her own wrist like a bracelet the child could not have fired it. It may slow down her ability to faster shooting in an emergency, but if they are going to make this a law the band should be more flexible to users. What if you are walking with a friend and someone shoots the friend with the weapon and do not have one you would be defenseless because the friends weapon would not be usable to you.
I personally hope they do not try to do this on our weapons of war because I just cant see how that would work to benefit a soldier if he needed to use someone elses weapon in fire.

There are problems with both kinds of "Smart gun" technologies.
With the fingerprint, what if your fingerprint is muddy, or bloody, or sweaty, or covered in barbeque sauce, or you just got a blister, or that hand was just broken? You die.
With the band or watch, what if the batteries on the band die, or the electronics are damaged in the struggle, or you lose the band? You die.

Good point. I think people should give this boy feedback for him to think about in the making of his prototypes. And the rest of people should be aware that way they can keep on top of the laws if it is tried to be forced upon people that they have to legally have this to have guns. We need to pay attention so if a person wants their house secured with these devices they can be. But my guns and ammo are locked in my bedroom by two locks so if my grandkids come here we are out playing yard games and they enter the house for the rest room we no the guns are under lock and key. Especially when my daughter does not allow me or anyone to teach them right from wrong around a gun. But with their types of disabilities I understand that too. thank you for you comments

I think this kid is onto something, and if he gets funded and patents, he may very well become the wealthiest young man ever, especially if he can get this mandated on all future gun manufactured...do I want it, NO. But I do have grandkids in the home...so it is a very small risk, and to make it zero, I would have to remove all guns from my home....I like the idea.

He has been funded $50,000 dollars he goes to school and works most into the night ont this project. SSG (P) Michael LoGuidice DC I do agree fully for my grandkids too. My oldest daughter doesn't allow guns around her children so they do not and would not understand it all so I worry if they ever did touch one from curiosity because they have no knowledge. However my other daughters husband even bought guns for his children so I worry there too. thank you for the response I am out of thumbs up.
