How soon can a SM request BAH if their significant other is pregnant?

I have a soldier(male) that got his girlfriend pregnant. I am just trying to familiarize myself with any regulations/ procedures that would deal with a situation like this. When can he request BAH/ move out of the barracks? What other things should he need to work on prior to the birth of the child? I know that he will need to enroll the child in DEERS once the child is born, but what can be done before then?

He will not be eligible for BAH as an unmarried Soldier without custody until he is legally required to pay child support by court order

A Soldiers BN Commander can make him pay child support until there's a court order if he refuses to support his child. Went through this with a Soldier who bragged about being a dad but didn't want to provide support. Forget what AR its in.
On a side note the Army is loaded with men collecting BAH for a child but don't pay child support (unless its changed in the past few years.) Other collect the BAH but but only give a fraction to the child. Absolutely disgusts me and goes against any values or ethics.

CSM David Porterfield a BN CDR can only order child support to a dependent child. The Army recently published a new reg simplifying the formula for when and how much a Soldier has to pay until there is a court order in place.
I definitely agree that there are a lot of adults in the Army under paying support for what their children need, or complaining about the tiny fraction they give to support their child.

CSM David Porterfield Thanks for the update. I did mean just the dependent child. I retired 6 years ago so its hard to stay relevant on here.

Once you prove you have a dependent(s) by proper documents. He can move out of the barracks if the Command allows it, but as a brown bagger still may have to maintain a wall locker and rack until sponsored to move out. Ask PSG, or other Sr. NCO, also S1.

Either marry her or wait until he has a birth certificate naming him the father.
