So I am PCSing to Ft Riley after I complete 25D training, I am curious as to when I will be assigned to a unit and if anyone can let me know how things will work around there. If sponsors are a big thing there then that will be extremely helpful. I know I won't be there for a while as I don't graduate 25D until December but I am just trying to get a jump on things and begin planning for myself and my family.

Just found out that the plan is for me to go to 2ABCT, not sure where exactly but if anyone has any information as to the mission for 25D Cyber Network Defender on location I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if you are not sure as to what the MOS is or on what we get trained on I will happily provide information.

E-5 and below have to stay in inprocessing barracks untill you get assigned to your unit. I had to stay for 18 days in the replacement company barracks. You have the opportunity to talk to your sponsor everyday during sponsorship time it's 1630-1700. You go through sharp and mrt training like all day there ha. Bus rides to the dfac. Kinda sucks.

Well as I have recently found out my report date isn't until 31 Jan 2016, so at that time I will be an E-6, barracks will not be on my list of things to do. However, I plan on putting in for housing as soon as I get my orders.

SSG Jordan, thank you for the information. My report date is 31 Jan 2016 so I am hoping to have everything accomplished before then but this is definitely giving me time to plan accordingly.

SGT Scheller, you're very welcome. Once you get the orders put in for housing immediately! There are a lot of housing divisions on Fort Riley, and if I may suggest some, I would try for Ellis Heights for the fact that's it's only minutes away from the Division area, schools, etc.

I run the replacement company at fort Riley. We have a great system here. First, if you are married , you are not required to live in the barracks, 2nd, as a SSG, you in-process on your own. Sponsorship is big here. Also, you can talk to housing as soon as you get your orders, you don't have to wait until you get here.

There is a small city called Manhattan that is 20 minutes from post. It has shopping malls and franchise dinner places. It is home of the KSU Wildcats and rent can be a little high. Junction City is adjacent to the Post. There are not many businesses and you DO NOT WANT TO LIVE BY THE BUSINESS DISTRICT. Look a couple miles out of that area. I wish you and your family safe travel and a pleasant stay at Ft Riley.

Sgt Scheller, I just retired from Fort Riley and ran operations at the Relacement Company. Once you arrive and depending on the schedule/ platoon you're in you will have about 10 days to in-process. After that you will be assigned to a unit in 1st ID. If there's anything else you may need, send me a message as I'll help you out in any way I can. Hope this helps you out some.

SSG Derek Scheller I Retired from Fort Riley as the HHC 1ID First Sergeant. I live very near to where you work currently, and I would be happy to sit and discuss with you Fort Riley. I spent a vast amount of time there...seems like almost two decades...More than likely you will be assigned to either the Headquarters Battalion in the Signal Company. Cyber Security / BNetwork bubbas are hard to find and will more than likely get snatched up by division.

You will most likely know when you're in-processing, if not before hand to what unit.

OK, I am hoping to find out sooner rather than later. But that may just be me having to make some calls and figure things out.
