Iraq veteran fights VA to prove he's not dead

PARKTON - Jeremy Walsh, a retired Navy petty officer second class, looks pretty good for a dead man.

He and his family chuckle about it now, but they are still working through a nightmare caused by a clerical error declaring his death that stopped his military pay and froze his bank account.

Walsh, 45, was declared deceased by Department of Veterans Affairs on March 25. The mistake snowballed when it was reported to the federal Social Security Administration, which stopped his pay and froze his bank account for weeks.

"It's been a trying time," Walsh said. "It's been frustrating."

EDITORIAL COMMENT:- If the government says that he is dead then he simply has to face reality.

If the situation was reversed and you missed a payment somewhere, you can guarantee that Uncle Sam, the SS office, the bank, bank manager and pizza delivery guy would be pounding down your door to collect with no notarized memos in hand.

MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca - Major; And, of course, any document which he presents with his signature on it is invalid because he's dead
