Anyone here been to Fort Bliss & know anything about 1-35 AR BN, 2ABCT, 1AD?

I’m PCSing to Bliss this June as a 92F and just wanted to know what I’ll be expecting for the most part. Particularly with that unit; if anyone has been apart of it or known people who have been. Also, what’s the usual day to day like? PT, work & duty?

Ft Bliss has grown exponentially since I was stationed there in the later 90s and again in the early 2000s. Today I'm at Ft Bliss for an exercise and you will be over on the Biggs side of Bliss. It is desert so be ready to drink lots of water. PT is normal hours and they block off various sections of the roads. There is a huge PX complex over on the old part of Bliss and most of the amenities are relatively new. El Paso is a nice city to live in and Las Cruses and Alamogordo are with in driving distance. Hope you like Mexican food. However like any assignment, it is what you make of it. I always enjoy my time here at Ft Bliss. Good luck.

Agreed. I enjoyed Ft. Bliss, and as I wrote elsewhere, it was fascinating to watch the effect of well over a billion dollars on investment take hold at Ft. Bliss when I there.

Thank you 1SG. Yes I love Mexican food with a passion so that’s a plus. Not a fan of deserts but it is what it is. I specialize in keeping my head down, doing my job then going home. So for me it’s just business as usual. This will be my last assignment so I’ll do whatever I can to grow

Can't say much about what 1-35AR, 2-1 AD is like these days as I was with them a decade ago when 2-1AD stood up and became the Army's testing brigade; which, mercifully, it no longer is.
I can say that Ft. Bliss has many amenities and is adjacent to El Paso with many more things to see and do. Understand it is the desert, so it's dry and hot, and not a lot of greenery. Plan accordingly.

I was a guest OC at NIE twice watching 1-35 and they were in rough shape from doing nothing but testing for so long. Think this was 2013 and 2014.

1SG (Join to see) - I was at 2-1AD (1-6Inf & 1-35AR) from 1 Jan '09 to December 2012; literally the 40th guy to arrive in the brigade prior to it standing up. So when you were there was after my time, but trust me, they were not in great shape even then. Sucky 5-6 week NIEs on top of normal training, often poor leadership even at the brigade level, and demoralized troops all fenced in to the unit for 3 (when I arrived) who couldn't leave unless they ETSed, contributed to some of that demoralization I think.
Heck, on that last point about being fenced into the unit and unable to leave, there were just two opportunities for soldiers to get out before their fence was lifted while I was there, and that was to attach to other deploying units needing bodies, and lots of us jumped at them. The 1st time was just for around 50 guys attaching to MPs and they didn't want married Grunts. Beggars can be choosers I guess. The next time was bigger; however, there was a hidden catch...at least in our company. Our 1SG (oh you silly 1SGs!) felt anyone who wanted to go was showing "motivation" and he made certain they didn't deploy, but somehow, guys who did not want to go were sent! Seriously! Even the Joes who couldn't care either way must have been too motivated and thus too valuable to get rid of. It was ridiculous.
I didn't hate 2-1AD and I understood the need for the mission they had, but I feel for anyone stuck doing that mission! Hopefully they don't fence people in like they used to.

No clue about your unit as I am medical but as my assignments have been for off duty activities, I rank them: 1. Germany 2. Bliss 3. Hawaii 4. Hood 5. Sam Houston, and 6. Korea. Never get bored here.
