There are already many "hobby" groups on RallyPoint. Some are serious and some are more for fun. I noticed there is no Sports Card group. When I was young sports card collecting and trading was a favorite activity. Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey seemed to be the most popular sports cards. Personally I collected baseball cards and lost many of them in neighborhood competitions. After I had my own sons, I decided to restart collecting cards and see if any of my sons would catch the spark. There was mixed interest in sports cards among my sons as Pokemon and gaming cards took off. I still have sets from the late 1980's and throughout the 1990's. My favorite is 1960's Topps and I hope to get some more cards from the mid-sixties.

CPT William Beaver, what does PEDs stand for? Back in the 1960s card packs included a stick of "gum" which had very little taste. I don't know who produced it but I expect they did not ever sell it by itself - since nobody would have purchased a second piece.

LTC Stephen F. - That they did and the gum tasted pretty much like cardboard. It was a slab only slight smaller than a card within than the pack of cards it came in with Topps Cards as I recall.

I've worked up a bit of a collection that netted me Hall of Famers in Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, Frank Thomas, Ryne Sandberg and Cal Ripken, Jr.
It would have been more prestigious had McGwire and Sosa not been implicated in PED use.

Yes, with My oldest son we did collect the starting lineup figurines. We had a couple dozen anyway. Mostly Red Sox and Yankee players but a few others as well.

I mainly collected baseball cards. At the peak of my collection, I had a few complete sets and one album dedicated solely to the Atlanta Braves. Now, I'm trying to rekindle my old hobby and put together a football card album for the Carolina Panthers. It's a work in progress, but I keep an eye out for card shows because that's where I do most of my dealings.

Typically, I check events at the local malls. Summer is usually the busy season. If you live near a venue like a racetrack or sports coliseum, there are possibilities a card show will have a weekend event. It doesn't hurt to get a dealer's business card when they're in town. That gives you a direct line to them and allows you to let them know what exactly you're looking for.
