While it's already difficult enough for some of us to hold an abdominal plank for even a minute, a 57-year-old U.S. Marine veteran from San Diego County broke a world record over the weekend by planking for over 5 hours.

That's 5 hours, 15 minutes and 15 seconds, to be exact, according to NBC San Diego. George Hood, the newly-crowned Guinness World Record champion from Carlsbad, beat out last year's planking record set by a Chinese police officer who held the position for four hours and 26 minutes, U-T San Diego reports.

Hood also isn't a newbie at this: he held the same world record for an abdominal plank three times in the past before he lost last year to the Chinese police officer. He has a total of seven world record titles.

And if you're wondering, Hood, who is also a former DEA agent and now fitness trainer, held the plank position on his forearms and his toes pointing down. He didn't do the halfway abdominal plank on his knees (something I often do), which only makes him that much more bad ass. He was seen on Saturday afternoon at the Junior Seau Amphitheatre in Oceanside grimacing as he held the plank. When the pain set in, Hood would try to distract himself by listening to music or having others visit him. Crews would ice his elbows and keep him hydrated.

Hood not only held onto this abdominal plank for so long to break a record, but also to raise money for Semper Fi Fund, a charity that supports injured U.S. service people.

"This is the least I can do," Hood told CBS 8. "The discomfort I feel right now pales in comparison to that which they experienced on the battlefield. Trust me."
